Once upon a time, there were three little piggies disguised as marketing myths. They were not really pleasant, nor true (it was a fairy tale after all), and no one had any real sympathy for them, yet people around the world believed they were real and deserved respect.

Most people gave these piggies more importance than they should have, and that created confusion, scarcity, and anxiety in the minds of these impressed business owners.

1) “Marketing IS Serious”. He always showed the seriousness of his work, never able to gain a fresh perspective on things, or take time to laugh about himself. God knows that he could have had a big laugh as his tiny hay-house was a real joke for the Wolf!

The wolf of our story is not a “Big Bad” one; he actually resembles the info-marketers and the new generation of business coaches that we see flourishing. Always energetic, resourceful, and even playful, they belong to a new breed of entrepreneurs.

So, let’s call this wolf - the Big Good Wolf, as he helps people get a fresh new idea of what marketing truly is, by eating up these three little mythies!

The wolf approached the “Marketing IS Serious” myth, and he blew on him and laughed so hard that the tiny hay house as well as the pig-myth disappeared in the wind.

“Marketing is all about experimenting, testing, and finding what works best. It is fun and needs to be playful and not too serious in order to be most effective,” said the wolf. And on he went to chase the second myth.

2) “Aggressive and Ruthless.” He would pretend to be harsh and have no mercy, yet as soon as the Big Good Wolf came to blow his wooden house, he turned out to be the nicest piggy on Earth! This one was really a fake and a phony.

“Marketing doesn’t have to be aggressive or cutthroat. There is a different way to promote and market products and services!” said the wolf. “Sometimes it’s not even competitive! I connect with my target market or niche; I ask my customers, consumers, clients what they really want by different ways (surveys, conversations, 1-800 numbers, etc.), and I simply align my offers to their desires. It is a simple as that!”

3) “Very Complex and Elaborate”. He had used very elaborate blueprints. Everybody would show him respect because they would think that the project was more complicated, more sophisticated than it really was. This myth knew how to make people believe he was so important!

Yet, the wolf took him as easily out as he did with the other two myths.

“I use blueprints too, said the wolf. My marketing and social media plans are as simple as possible. I added nicely streamlined systems to organize follow through and manage everything smoothly. Marketing doesn’t need to be complex!”

With these reassuring words the third myth vanished into the air and everybody in the business kingdom finally came to the realization that marketing can be easy, playful, and aligned to our values and ethics!

I’ve been right where you are. I’ve experienced the worry about not having enough clients –and income- that you’re feeling now. I’ve spent (quite literally) hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars learning what it takes to market and grow a successful, thriving service business.

Sure, I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way. (Do four previous business failures count as mistakes?) But I was determined not to go back to waitressing or non-profit (no pun intended) 9-to-5 work again.

You see, I didn’t give myself any choice but to do whatever it took to get a handle on marketing. And that’s why I’m sharing with you the fruits of my labor.

How to clear non serving beliefs that are stuck to your brain like a wet candy to paper

It was 5:30 in the morning and I woke up abruptly. “Yuk, that was disgusting!” I said to myself. The thought rushed out as if it needed to be exorcised,eliminated, washed away. The problem is that I couldn’t remember what was so disgusting. I shivered and took a minute to come back from my sleep to reality. I looked at my nightstand. Not disgusting! The painting on the wall, the fireplace, — everything was just fine! Everything I could see is pleasing and invites me to dream.

Dream, that’s it! I just had a dream. A bad one, yet not quite a nightmare. I remembered it now! I was looking at the palm of my hand and noticing what I thought was tiny hair. Looking closer I noticed minuscule plants growing in my hand. So I pulled on one and found a long root that transformed into a wiggly worm.

I pulled all the plants out and each and every one had an egg-white root that changed itself in a disgusting worm. I felt invaded by all these moving worms and I woke up.

As an Intuitive Business Coach, I sometimes analyze dreams for my clients. Dreams can deliver a precious message from your Higher Self. Yet it also can be just your subconscious mind washing out the excess stuff from the day. In this case you experience an interesting mix of what you’ve seen, felt or heard such as client interactions, the news, traffic on the way to a meeting, bills.

And some dreams are premonitions and tell something about the future.

In this case, since I had not seen the movie Dune (the wiggly worms ;)) in a long time, it was not my subconscious clearing out my day; It was not a prediction of the future either, at least I hope not; I don’t plan on growing plants inside my hands! It was a message from the upper part of me touching Spirit/God/the Universe/Higher Self. A message delivered symbolically at a time of rest so it could really penetrate myself and I would be impressed to remember it later.

When people ask me “How do you know?” I reply to them that I get totally neutral to the subject. What I mean is that I make sure my ego is not in the way of the messages I receive or how I interpret them, I tap into the Source and I dowse for the answers.

I use a pendulum to get my answers. I could use my body and “muscle test” like in kinesiology, yet to me dowsing is more accurate because sometimes the body needs water or air, or else in order to get accurate answers, so I prefer to dowse. I know how to connect to the Source and remove interferences and blocks that would give me wrong answers; I teach this to anyone willing to learn it all the time and it works fabulously. (For in person teachings, look at the SRT class coming up soon!) People are amazed and so am I, even though I’ve done it for years!

So I dowsed to get messages about my weird dream and here is what I found the following messages:

The plants are beliefs; they look good from the outside and it seems like everything is fine. Although when I look closer, I discover these beliefs are not so auspicious. They can turn out to be frightening (the worms). The fears they create invade me and limit my growth. The good thing is that they have root causes (plant roots) that I can pull in order for me to get rid of them and to create positive beliefs in their place.

So here is the message: I need to go find my beliefs. I need to examine them and see them for what they really are – disgusting little worms. I don’t need to be afraid of them. I can remove their roots and replace my beliefs with better choices that will help me thrive even more.

Wisdom in action:

I even have several exercises about this; my favorite exercise for this is to make two columns. In the left column you make a list of self limiting beliefs. You think about a subject, for example “money”, and you start writing what comes up to your mind. “Money doesn’t grow on trees” “I need to work hard to make money” (–my favorite one!) I don’t really deserve to work 15 hours per week and make XXX,XXX.xx dollars. That would be too easy!” etc.

When you have exhausted all your beliefs and topics, you go to the right column and you reframe this belief in a more positive way. The key to this is to create something that you CAN believe, not something that is so overly-positive-and-through-pink-glasses that you won’t “buy” it. You need to be able to accept that belief for a new truth.

Then you choose a couple of these new and improved beliefs and put them on a card board. Take them with you everywhere you go and you read them often. Meditate on them in the morning and at night, let them “sink in”; you will “integrate” them as part of your new belief system. It feels great to choose non-limiting beliefs and when you’ll see the results you’ll create with this simple exercise, you’ll want to monitor your thoughts and beliefs more!
